The heart behind Khula

Hands forming a heart shape with fingers.

Khula is an African word meaning to grow or to mature.

At Khula Therapy, we believe that growth begins with feeling safe, seen, and understood. Supporting children, young people, and adults to grow in self-awareness, understanding, acceptance, and connection is at the heart of what we do.

Our mission is to promote healing, growth, and empowerment through creative, relational, and evidence-informed therapeutic approaches. We provide a warm and inclusive space where individuals can explore emotions, make sense of their experiences, develop resilience, and discover their unique strengths.

We recognise that healing and growth can occur in many forms. Through Play Therapy, Dramatherapy, EMDR, and other creative and expressive approaches, we support individuals to communicate, explore, and process experiences in ways that feel meaningful and authentic to them.

Jojo is a Play Therapist, Dramatherapist, and EMDR practitioner who is passionate about helping children, adolescents, and adults heal, grow, and thrive.

She completed her Master's degree in Dramatherapy at Roehampton University in London, trained in Play Therapy through Play Therapy Australia, and undertook EMDR training through EMDR Australia Training and Consultation.

Jojo's experience spans South Africa, England, and Australia, working across a range of settings including mainstream schools, with neurodivergent children and young people, those experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties, and youth involved in the justice system.

Her therapeutic approach integrates EMDR, Play Therapy, and Dramatherapy to provide a safe, creative, and compassionate space where clients can process experiences, build resilience, and develop greater self-awareness and emotional wellbeing.

Jojo has a particular interest in adapting EMDR for children and young people, integrating play and creative arts approaches to make therapy engaging, developmentally responsive, and accessible.

At the heart of her work is a belief in each person's capacity for healing, growth, and meaningful change.
